Unisphere 1.0.x - Celerra - Removing an unused disk volume

When removing a meta volume in Unisphere for a Celerra NAS, the "Delete" button may be grayed out to remove the corresponding disk/volume. You may also see alerts for the Celerra saying "Disk ... has been trespassed." with Event Code 0x12608a0065.

This can happen if a Celerra is set up but later on you wish to free up its volumes to use on the underlying array (i.e. Clariion). This article shows how to remove the disk or volume in order to free up the space in the Raid Group that they belong to.


After removing a meta volume in Unisphere, you may not be able to delete the corresponding disk or volume for that meta volume in Unisphere. The "Delete" button may be grayed out, even though the disk is not being used.

This is due to a limitation of the Unisphere software. The disk can be removed from the command line instead.


  1. Open "Putty" or an SSH client, and connect to your Celerra IP address.
  2. Run the "nas_disk -l" command to show a list of all disks. Output should be similar to below:

  3. Double check that the "inuse" flag for the disk(s) you wish to remove is "n". Note: Be careful not to delete any of the "root" disks, which are used by the Celerra operating system. Check the Volumes of the Celerra to double check the disks are not in use or associated with a meta volume.
  4. For each disk you wish to remove, run the "nas_disk -delete {diskname}" command, where "{diskname}" is the name in the list as shown above. Output should be similar to below:

  5. Verify that the disk is removed by running the "nas_disk -l" command one more time. The disk should not be listed. You can also verify the disk is no longer listed in the Volumes of the Celerra as well.
  6. Repeat the command above for any additional disks to remove.
  7. Delete any old alerts still left in Unisphere for the trespassed disk and watch for further alerts. The alerts should stop since the disk is now removed.
