Any - Outlook 2000+ - Recover Deleted Items for all folders

In Outlook, items can be deleted in folders and by default there is no way to recover them. This happens when items are hard deleted (deleted immediately, rather than moved to Deleted Items and purged from there). A hard delete can be done by holding down Shift and pressing Delete. The fix below will enable the "Recover Deleted Items" option for all folders in Outlook, allowing messages to be restored from any folder.

  1. Open the Registry Editor (regedit.exe)
  2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options
  3. Add a new DWORD called "DumpsterAlwaysOn".
  4. Set the "DumpsterAlwaysOn" value to 1.
  5. Restart Outlook.

Now, when in any folder of Outlook, the "Recover Deleted Items" option should be available, allowing items to be restored directly from these folders if they were hard deleted.
