Clonezilla - Running from a remote computer

Postby lmmtux » Thu Sep 04, 2014 1:04 pm

Clonezilla is an excellent image capturing and deployment solution. This article shows how to use it remotely, rather than sitting at the console of the PC that the operations are being performed on. It does not go in to detail on capturing and deploying images.

You must turn the Clonezilla ISO beforehand, as this will be needed to boot to.
The PC must also have a CD drive and ability to boot to this drive.

  1. Boot to the CD on the computer.
  2. At the first Clonezilla bootloader screen press Enter.

  4. Press Enter to accept the keymap.
  5. Select the option "Enter_shell" and press Enter.

  8. Type in the following command to start the network services:
    Code: Select all
    sudo ocs-live-netcfg

The following box will come up and you can then select your network settings (most cases DHCP will work).

  9. The network configuration will come up if using DHCP, make a note of the IP address.

  10. Use a SSH client (Putty) to connect to the IP address above. The username and password are: user/live.
  11. In the SSH session, run this command to start Clonezilla:
    Code: Select all
    sudo clonezilla
  12. Follow the remaining steps to work with the images on the remote PC as desired.
